Oct 16, 2023 Season 1 Episode 3

Guest: Tony Nguyen
Executive Director & Founder of TwoPoint4 Dance Theatre

In Episode 3, we talk with Tony about unconventional paths of training, how he sees other artists and what it means to be "successful". There is a moment that Tony shares his tears with us as he reflects on something his mentor shared with him recently and we discuss the presence of stereotypical masculine and feminine expectations that have been present for him in the studio.

Tony (he / him) received his Bachelor's degree in Dance from CSU Sacramento and has since performed with various companies in the Bay Area and internationally. Tony has worked with the likes of Randee Paufve, Joe Goode Performance Group, and East to West Dance Collective, as well as toured with Bandaloop across the United States, Asia, and Africa. He has also served as the assistant artistic director for Red Bucket Dance Theater from 2011 to 2013, and is currently the executive director, choreographer, and sometimes dancer for TwoPoint4 Dance Theatre, where he uses collaboration to create performances that challenge viewers on social, political, and personal issues. In 2019, Tony received the audience choice award at PUSHfest in San Francisco. In addition to his work in dance, Tony is also a professional photographer and enjoys exploring new ways to change the way performances are viewed in Sacramento. In 2021, Tony set “Fragmented Memories,” a full-length piece, with much fanfare in the Sacramento community and recently set “Brick x Brick” in collaboration with the dancers of TwoPoint4. During his free time, you can find him swinging kettlebells, playing with his daughter Margot, and finding fun innovative eateries throughout the region.
